My Win2000 server is down. After a reboot yesterday, the screen prompts 'NTLDR is missing'. I don't have an emergency repair disk. when I tried to boot from CD-rom (SCSI) the same prompt appear again. then I made 4 setup disks from another computer and used them to enter the Win2k setup and choose repair to get into the recovery console. but what can i do in there? I can see that my 'ntldr' file is still there. I tried the command 'fixboot' but can't get it right. I examined the boot.ini, the ARC path is correct. I copied the 'NTLDR' file from the CD to the partition but it doesn't help either. The same prompt appears. What action can I take now? Thanks in advance!

According to Microsoft's website, fixboot is a recovery console comand. If that doesn't work, Enter setup with your four disks, in the Welcom to Setup screen, press "R". In the next two screens, press "R" then "M", respectively. Deselect "Verify Windows 2000 system files" then select "Continue". In the next screen, press "L". If setup can't find your Windows installation, then its hopeless without an emergency repair disk.
I had a similar problem after repatitioning, and the only thing that solved my problem was using Norton Ghost 6.5 to create a file-wise (default) image of my Windows 2000 partition, and then overwrite the partition by restoring from the image. there is no documented reason for why that work, but it did.
