Running a setup program off NT 4.0 Server on a Workstation, come up with the following error.

"Setup is unable to decompress and copy all of the program files needed to proceed with the installation.... Error 112"

This workstation is no different to 20 others in the office and they are able to complete the install, as was this one until now. Basically it's a setup file which copies updated program files from the server, tried running from a cd-rom, same error.

Other than rebuilding the workstation, can anyone give me some ideas how to correct this? NT4 Workstation sp. 6.a

Thanks appreciated, ahead

:)

It does not sound like a healthy puppy.

Assuming AV-scan is blank,

1. Can you install something else? Eiiminate that possibility of a corrupted dll for decompress. Is it easy to get new copies of all the systems files from the net?

2. If you move the setup files to the HD and install, what happens?

A bad connection/NIC is counter-indicated by getting a similar error on a CD install, unless the horrible 'simultaneous problems' is happening. But if it is easy to swap, try a different connection path as it is easier than opening the system up.

Then I think you are down to RAM and the drive.

A full scandisk, or better, spinrite, .

I have not seen a thorough RAM or CPU exerciser for awhile, one that runs for at least a half an hour working at it. Any recommendations from TekTippers?

Try emptying (deleting) anything from your Temp folder... Installshield has to decompress its stuff into there before kicking off the install process - if it can't overwrite an existing file it will most likely fall over.

I presume it has enough disk space? [auto] MCSE NT4/W2K

Thanks guys, have emptied the temp file and tried again, still no go. Have also tried moving the setup file to the HD, unfortunately it requires that many others which reside on the system server or cd, it's not a valid option to try running from the HD path. Have also updated the InstallShield on the WS. Seems to get up to 99% before it begins installing, so it's the prep. Guess I'll just have to badger the software vendor and tell them it IS your software :)
