I am trying to create a database that mirrors a production database and automatically keep it current. What is the best method. I have never done this before, so could you please provide a step by step guide?

I need this as soon as possible.

Thanks for your anticipated support.

Please refrain from using the word Urgent in your posts, whether in the body or the subject. Accoding to 'normal' nettiquette it is considered rude at best and will often result in fewqer people even looking at your problem never mind trying to help you solve it. The problem is the general attitude of the original poster (op) that the use of the term tends to imply. Since this appears to be your first post, I am happy to point you in the direction that I think would be likely to be suitable. However, if it were not a first (or at least very early post) I personally would have ignored this thread entirely.
On to your problem. I would suggest dataguard, details of which can be found (amongst many other sources) at

Jim, Very well stated and good advice on both issues. [2thumbsup]

Thanks. I will look into this method. Is there a step by step guide for the data guard method?

Are there any alternative methods that you can suggest?

Thanks

Is there a step by step guide for the data guard method?
Absolutely.
Step 1. Read all of the documentation on the Topic.
Step 2. Create a Standby Db in a test environment.
Step 3. Whilst referring to the documentation 'play' with Standby Db until fully familiar with it.
Step 4. Roll out to production environment.
:)
