I have two laptops runing RH 9.0. I want them to be a part fo the domain. There are no existing domains. So I want to create a new domain and join both the laptops to the domain. They are both connected to a hub. There is a DNS server which I can use or I can create a new one.
Advise, links, how-to's please.
Thanks.

Also this domain doesnt have to be resoved from the internet. It will enough if I can resolve the FQDNs from each other laptops.
Thanks.

For a domain I think you will need a domain controller. If you want the two computers to talk to each other you can set the FQDNs in the host file on each machine. What is it you are trying to accomplish?

Well I did succeed in getting the two machines to talk to each other by adding an entry in the /etc/hosts file on both machines. But I dont know if thats the right way of doing things.
Basically I was trying to set up Oracle 9i AS on one and DB on the other and the way they would talk to each other is by using FQDNs.
So, I thought I would create a imaginary domain just so that only these laptops would be resolved on the LAN.
Comments please !!!
Also links on setting up a DC for linux (NIS domain) would be appreciated. I am looking in linux.org currently.
Thanks.

Putting entries in /etc/hosts is fine. What kind of domain do you want?
Windows Domain, NIS domain, LDAP domain?

Just b/c you have a domiain, does not mean that your clients will be able to talk to each other by name. You need a DNS server, or use your hosts file. NIS can hand out hosts information as well.
