Does anyone out there know why Cisco is telling me that directly connecting two 1602s via their 56k csu/dsu ports won't work? Theoretically, since both integrated csu/dsu units produce similar digital signals they should be compatible regardless of the transmission medium...right?

For those interested, the pinout is 1-Trx, 2-Rcv, 7-Trx1, 8-Rcv1, all other pins unused.

So, theoretically, by crossing over the cabling it should work...right?

Please help URGENTLY, as I am in a real bind here! Thanks in advance!

I don't know if that will work either. I suppose you tried setting them up this way? Is it possible that these interfaces are both setting clock speed since they have the CSU/DSU built in? If so, they probably won't connect. Let us know what you have tried so far and post a config so we know what the built -in interface looks like (I haven't seen one first-hand).

It works fine.. I've done this in my own lab.

Use the Cisco crossover console cable or build one. You need to set the DCE side up with clocking.
