This is a really strange one

First Config Info -
Exchange 5.5 sp3
DNS host name SERVER NAME
DNS Domain - company.com

email address's user@company.com
siteaddressing - SMTP - @company.com

WorldCom is our provider and does our DNS translations for IP address to name
Nat Traslation on router for Internet IP to Internal IP

About 9am this morning all internet mail that is sent to our address's stopped. Internal mail and mail being sent to Internet address's work fine

All external mail being sent to us is NOT recieveing a bounce message.

now if i ping my OWA address it comes back
ping mail.company.com
pinging mail.company.com [208.255.255.255] with 32 bytes of data
*the 208.255.255.255 is the DNS translation for this server then my NAT points this to my internal Ip address**
63.11.125.125 expired in transit
63.11.125.125 expired in transit
63.11.125.125 expired in transit
63.11.125.125 expired in transit

Now my guess is that it sould come back with 208.255.255.255 and not this 63.11.125.125 address

I did this 10 times 5 of the times I got BAD IP back and the rest I got what is listed above

What is going on here??

Sounds like a network routing issue to me. Get your network admin on the case right away. Are you missing a default route? Sounds like either that or your NAT got messed up.

The 63.11.125.125 address is probably a router that doesn't know where to send the packets for the address you tried to ping. (route got lost)

Hope this helps somewhat.
