Hello,
I have a network and one of these PC's connect to internet via modem (it have linux installed), the others have windows for now. I'm thinking of install linux in all PC's.

I need to configure linux (server) with modem that connects to internet, but I don't know how I do it.
I don't know also what's the proxy that I need to put in Windows LAN settings.

Lets suppose:

LinuxComputer have IP: 10.0.0.1
Computer1 have IP: 10.0.0.2
Computer2 have IP: 10.0.0.3
Computer3 have IP: 10.0.0.4
Computer4 have IP: 10.0.0.5

The computer1,computer2,computer3 and computer4 are computers that don't have modem installed.
Linux Computer have a modem installed.

How do I configure the computers to have all access to internet via linuxcomputer?

Tell me please, step by step how do I do it.

Thanks a lot:)

Quickest solution:

Assuming the linux machine is successfully connecting to the internet: (if not, then depending on what your setup is there are a number of options)
Download the IPmasquerading HOWTO. This comes with some sample scripts to load a masquerading firewall using either IPchains or IPTables depending on your kernal version (chains for 2.2, tables for 2.4) once thats done, with your windows boxes, set their default gateway to be your linux computer (eg 10.0.0.1). The windows boxes should be able to see the internet (try pinging just to check)

Once thats set up, the firewall will have to be fine tuned, finish reading the IPmasq HOWTO, and then read the Firewalling HOWTOS etc etc,

--cb

Can you ping any IP on the internet from the linux machine?
" " " " the windows boxes?
