I'm trying to finish this site, and all of a sudden there's a huge problem. She goes to look at it and sees the background color and even a movie that loads into another level, but no graphical content. There's a line of code which says something to the degree of "align= font=verdana" etcetera. Other things aren't happening either, like getDate functions and such. Pardon my ignorance, but is this due to this particular computer not having the Flash 5 plugin? Why would the browser try to play it through a Flash 4 player? Any suggestion?

Please check it out at:

Your timely reply is much appreciated

The way to check is to get her to right click on the Flash movie and see if it says Flash 4 Player or Flash 5 Player; I have had problems with movies exported as Flash 5 when played through the version 4 plugin; I think the browser doesn't really care about the version of the plugin it has; it just tries to use what it can.

If she doesn't want to download the Flash 5 plugin then try publishing it as Flash version 4 and see if that helps; failing that you need to do a version check on the index page for your site; and if they have the wrong version of flash re-direct them to the macromedia site where they can download the v.5 player. I can't fot the life of me remember how to do a version check; but someone in this forum is bound to know!

It works absolutely fine in my computer with flash 5.

By the way, I discovered the reason for all of this mayhem. It turns out the flash4 player will try to play flash 5 movies. So when the player runs into stuff which is flash five only (like xml parsing or getDate stuff) it doesn't happen. You can't just test on a page for the flash plugin, you have to use some kind of action script thing which is flash 5 only to get the person to the button in the first place. I'm glad I was able to find a flash 4 player to discover this.

By the way, thanks, Dave
