urgent - background transparency help!!

how can i make the background transparent in aftereffects?

i have turned off the temp white background i made which i thought would leave a transparent background, but it didnt... how can i make a transparent background?.. please help.. any thoughts appreciated!

when you say transparent what do you mean? do you want the checkerboard bg that you get in PS? That can be set in preferences.

By default the is no real background, this gets put in - using the projects default BG colour - when rendering unless you specify that you want uncompressed with alpha. Then anything 'holes' or sections on the stage that have transparencies will maintain their alpha state allowing you to composite in Prem. To be honest though compositing is infinietly better in AE, which is why I kinda was interested to know what you mean by transparent.
