Urgent 2000 Replication Problem

Hello Friends,

I am getting a strange message when trying to setup my SQL
2000 server for replication. When going through the
Configure, Publishing, Subscribers and Distribution wizard
I receive the error message:-

SQL server Enterprise Manager could not configure SAM-SQL-
07 as the distributer for 'SAM-SQL-07.

Error 14114 '(null)' is not configured as a distributor.

Strange because I want to set it up as a distributor. I
have configured replication successfully before on SQL
2000 and did not have any problems.
My server is called SAM-SQL-07 by the way.
Any Help would be much appreciated.

Run the following query in the Query Analyzer: select @@servername

This will check if SQL Server recognises its name. If not, this would return a null. Microsoft recommends reinstalling SOL Server to fix the problem. However, there is an easier method located here in the Forum. If I can come across my notes on this, I will post them to you. I am not sure if this is your problem but it is worth a try.

Thankyou very much for the reply. I ran the query and it indeed can back with a null value so it looks like this is my problem.
I would very much appreciate it if you could find another way apart from a re-install as I have just got this server talking to an AS400 and a transaction server which was no easy task, hence do not fancy rebuilding SQL Server.

Why don't you try
sp_addserver, it may require a restart witch a lot better that reinstall.
If that does not work try going strait into the system table sysservers.
