Why do I get an "end now" dialog every time I show down. The dialog says is is closing a program called c:\debuglog.log. There is no such program running as per task manager.

How do I make this go away.

Is there any chance that you somehow started up in debugging mode?

Right click on My Computer, Properties, Advanced tab, Startup & Recovery Settings button, System startup Edit button. Copy and paste the notepad info back to this thread.

We have just installed an Audigy 2 in the last few days. I read the reference where the user describes his experience with the system hanging and reference to debuglog.log. But what is the fix?

We have gotten it to stop by playing around with msconfig.

First we tried going back a few days to a restore point. System would not complete the shutdown for the restore point reset. Had to turn the computer off.

. . . then tried going into diagnotic mode with msconfig. At that point the system prompted with a request for product activation. We had to call MS and got a new product activation code.

. . . at that point the system started back up and the problem went away.

. . . in msconfig, on the general tab, the "selective start up option is now selected.

. . . we have left it that way and no more problem.

If you want to try Audigy again check that you have the very latest XP drivers.

The Selective Start Up notification can be safely turned off via its window, else it will reappear every boot while Audigy is referenced in Msconfig window. (Many Reg Cleaning tools would remove its entry from there as should unistalling the program that put it there).

If you searched Google ( search for Debuglog.log) and understood German there might be some more information to be had on your original post.

Ps. I can't understand why it would required you to reactivate.

I've seen this on both my computers running with an Audigy 2 soundcard. Disabling RCmon in the "startup" tab on msconfig eliminates the problem.

I also had problems with apps hanging and not installing properly. This was fixed if I manually killed thr rcman task in taskmanager.
