Uploading images to a record

I am building a sub site in ASP and I would like to have the client able to browse for an image on there PC from an ASP page and have that image show up as a thumbnail, or small image in the record on another page.

Can anyone point to some code or direction on this one? Can it be done?

I have played with the use of a drop done box, but that is set up at the developer level and the images are preloaded.

Any help would be appreciated

Do you want the user to upload an image file to your web server and then use those image files on dynamic pages?

The easy part is to add an [tt]<input>[/tt] element with [tt]type="file"[/tt] to your HTML form.

Then you'll need ASP to process the file. This is an OK place to start: Save the file either to the disk on your web server or to a binary field in your database. If you safe it to disk then put the filename and path into a database so you can yank it back out on the other page where you want it displayed.
 
I've been having a look at this and while it looks ok to integrate as it is, I don't want to place the file in a separate database.

I like the idea of the upload folder. but I have a database with a DSN connection established already and want to be able to use the fields from the table in my database to show the image.

My Form fields names are:
txtSurname - (Text Field)
txtFirstname - (Text Field)
txtPosition - (text field)
txtBio - (text area)
txtimg - (Text field, this is where I want to display the image)
the table name is "BCStaff"

I'm assuming I have to modify the "ToDatabase.asp" file but am unsure what and how

Any help would be great.

OK,

I have the files working and they seem to be uploading the images. However, when I look at the database records, it fills all of the fields in except for the file name. I need that to access the file.

Any ideas?

Maybe gremlins have invaded your db server box and are eating the file names before they actually get to the table. I've seen this happen a few times. The best way to prevent it is to watch the gremlins movie a few times while taking notes on how that guy gets rid of them. The hard part is not getting the water on the server sense water and those electronic things don't get along to well.

After you do all that you can show us the code so we can actually help you

It looks as though everything is there, but the FileName doesn't load to the database table. There is another ASP page that loads the file to a folder that I would like to include into the one page. that code is below.

With this page I am getting Write permission errors, I can fix that with my server host.

Do this to first make sure the file name is getting through ok before inserting it into the table.

Didn't work at all. It stopped the record from uploading to the database altogether. When I took the two lines out again, it uploaded the data into the table without the FileName as before.

It does look as though it is not grabbing the Filename. Below is the include file. I suspect it may be something in there.

The purpose of the code that onpnt suggested was to stop execution of the script and output the value of the variable strFileName so at least you know the upload code is providing the filename properly.

 
OK,

But the File Name is not writing at all. If you look at the bottom of the first chunk of code I posted, there is a link to the image:

When that page appears it should provide me with a link to the image to see it, but the name does not appear. I place a word inside of the link and the link works, but I think that that is another ASP page storing the information as this whole thing does not upload any files to a server.
