New to FrontPage and web site hosting in general, so I admit I'm in over my head on this one. Can anyone give me some advice on how to configure a the File Upload Form so that I can upload files from my own personal web site?

I'm using FP2003 and have inserted the File Upload Form. I can see it after publishing my site, but I can't seem to upload anything. I'm a bit confused on the Properties for the form, but I did see under the options button that I could chose a location to upload the files to. I used a folder that is on my ISP's server. But I can't seem to upload. I think I'm missing something vital on the Send To option in the Properties box, but Help hasn't been so helpful in directing me.

Maybe I'm starting with something way too hard, but I just wanted a way for my family to be able to upload pics to me easily without having to email them. Then I could pull them down and put them on my site if I wanted.

Any help is appreciated!

Well,

The FrontPage file upload component requires the 2002 extensions, a Windows server and your host must allow anonomyous file upload.

As to the proceedure, I have a tutorial link Here.

In order to set the permissions for allowing scripts to be run, you will have to open the site live on the server to accomplish this.

Hope I have been of some help,

Where I work, we host our own site. Is allowing anonymous file upload dangerous?

Hi Lillibeth,

I guess there could be a danger of someone uploading a virus or other malicious script which could bring your site down.

Although there may be workarounds regarding file size and type, I am not familiar with these.

I host my site through GeoCities/Yahoo. I went to the File Management section for my site and can see the folders I created for upload stuff to be dropped into. I have all the necessary rights as far as I can tell, but will take that topic up with GeoCities to see if it's something on their end that isn't allowing this.

As for FP, I can see the folders on my site in FP, but when I right click and select Properties, the options that I should have for Allow Anonymous and Allow Upload are not available. They are grayed out. Do ya think that's a clear indication that GeoCities doesn't let me do this? It would seem so to me.

Hi denacho,

The options will be greyed out when you open the folder on your local machine. It is necessary to open live to do this.

Opening the site live also requires the FPSE.

The way I do this is File >> Open and then type the website address in the box normally reserved for page names.

It will take a few seconds for this to open. Once the site opens, open any page, locate the folder in folder list and then set the permissions and save.

If you are unable to open live, then the extensions could be absent or corrupt.

Hope I have been of some help,
