upload problem...I can't see my site

Hy, everybody!
Hope I'm at the right forum
I'm unsecessfuly trying to upload and see my first site whole evening and I realy don't know what I'm doing wrong...help me please!
I did everything like my host said in the mail...go to cpanel, put all files in the public.html file, so I did...upload went fine but when I go to google and enter my adress, instead of the site I see something like this:

Index of/
parent directory date
graphics date
cgi-bin date

And at the bottom the server name

What am I missing here..it must be something so simple that I will laugh at myself for days...but now It's almost making me cry :-(

Anyway, upload a file called index.html or index.htm and try that.

I solved the problem on my own, it was, as I said my stupid mistake as I uploaded the files not in the public.html but in the root....hehehe...I do laugh at myself now
