If you downloading on a normal 56k modem, have you still got maximum upload speed? What is upload on the 56k modem is it the same?

upload download speeds

there are 4 56k standards and the answer varies Between them.
X2, K56flex and v.90 all upload as fast when dowloading. the fastest upload speed of all three is at 28.8 or 33.6 (I forget which do 33.6 and which do 28.8)
v.92 can upload as fast as 44k but not while downloading, it goes back to 33.6 I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.

So all standards except V.92 can upload at max speed when downloading. Furthermore the download is not affected?

Correct, and v.92 never falls below the earlier standards, even when doing both upload and download at once.
BTW, external modems use their own CPU, while internal Winmodems use the PCs CPU, so there may well be occasions where a PC with an external is faster than a PC with an internal. I tried to remain child-like, all I acheived was childish.
