I have a 8 GB text file, on my local drive, that I want to upload to the mainframe. I tried to allocate dataset on the mainframe to that size but it would not let me. I was wondering if there is anyway I could ftp a 8GB text file to the mainframe ?

If your definition of mainframe is an IBM MVS System, you
will need to talk to some of your systems people.

My experience at different shops indicates you have two
issues you are dealing with here.

First, some shops put a limit on the size of files that
can be FTP'd. You will have to verify all is OK with the
file you will be transferring.

Second, some shops put a limit on the size of files that
can be stored on Disk (DASD). Some shops do not allow
files of 8GB to be allocated to Disk, others may have
specific Packs set up to handle requests of your type.

So, you need to talk to your system folks and see what
they have to say.

Hope that helps.
