Uplink Issues

We have a 3com switch that uplinks three buildings via fiber. I am having issues pinging machines on the 3 com switch when I am on that switch. It is really odd intermittant ping results. However, when I unplug the fiber uplinks, the pings run fine. What is going on here. Spanning tree going nuts.

What 3com do you have? Could be spanning tree, did you try to disable it?
