hi

we plan to upgrading our company's NT4 PDC to Win2000 server because our network is currently suffering major problems. NT browsing just isn't working correctly. That's why I thought a quick upgrade of our PDC to Win2000 server

description about the pdc

Service pack 6,dhcp server, iis 3.0, proxy server, sql server 7.0.

hardware : p111 550 mhz processor, 10gb hdd's -2 (disks mirrored), 512 mb ram.

if i upgrade to windows 2000 server does my sam database will remain the same? am i able to share the internet with the same proxy,DHCP, NT browsing on the network.

and one more thing, it has trust and trusting relationship with another windows 2000 server from where the users logon to sql server 7.0

any thoughts.

it will work... but before you start : make a full backup, and make sure you detach a BDC server (when somehting goes wrong, you can promote that box to PDC and your network will be up again...) Peter Van Eeckhoutte

You also might want to consider moving things around a bit. DHCP, IIS, Proxy AND SQL on the same box with only 512m RAM is a lot. This could actually be your whole problem - definitely not enough resources for what is loaded on the machine.

Yes, to beef up the memory to 1Gb (ideally, to 2GB), wouldn't hurt. Especially, with today's memory prices...

I agree with mikes999 and peterve, rather than put yourself through an upgrade process, try the simple things first. Might save you pulling out your hair while you're trying to figure out the new MS DC setups.
