I'd like to upgrade the hard drive on my Toshiba 4030CDT laptop to something more managable, say 20GB.

The hard drive does not seem to be 'user swappable'. However, I'm quite proficient in upgrading desktop PCs, so I'd give it a go if necessary.

Does anyone know where the hard drive is located, and how I would get at it?

Also, it there anything else I should bear in mind before I purchase a new drive? I read somewhere that older Bios's don't recognise drives over 8GB. Does this apply to the 4030CDT?

Many thanks,
Rick

Laptops are the worst at replacing Hard drives (or anything else as a matter of fact)with a bigger one. Usually located to one side underneath the chassis. The BIOS on the 4030 may not see the larger HDD. I would suggest contacting Toshiba and get some recommendations from them.

As far as I know there´s software that solves the problem of BIOS not recognizing bigger HDs. I´d check Seagate´s, Quantum´s or IBM´s HD-homepages on this problem.
There must be a way for removing the HD but I must confess that I haven´t found it for my 1670, yet :)
One more thing to think about: The power consumtion might grow with a bigger HD. I´d check the specs beforehand.
