The original processor board (was a 1.1, but upgraded the programming to R6 last summer) in our system bit the dust yesterday, and we got our new R7 board in today.

Here is our current config (5 slot carrier):
Slot 1: 308EC Lines 6-8, Ext. 19-26
Slot 2: 206EC R4.1 Lines 9-10, Ext. 27-32
Slot 3: ACS R7.0 91E Lines 1-5, Ext. 10-18
Slot 4: Empty
Slot 5: Empty

Question 1: Original system had a Partner Voice Messaging PC Card (Pink label). I turned the new system off, inserted card, and turned system back on. All of the modules power up (green LEDs), but the phones do not come back on. Is this card incompatible with the R7?

Question 2: Original system had a Partner Backup/Restore PC Card (Green label). From reading previous posts, I believe that this card is incompatible with the system. I can insert this card by itself and the system does power on and phones operate normally. Will this PC Card work?

Question 3: We had external paging hooked up to the original system, through the Page port. New system uses a line jack for paging. I plugged the cable for our paging system into Line 10 and programmed #617 to Line 10. When we press Intercom 70 to page, nothing is heard from the paging system. We programmed #104 to 6 lines initially.

Thanks for your help!

1 I have had out of box failures. Try just the processor with the power cord plugged in to see if it works (don't forget to default the system before you start programming.

2 The R7 uses a different backup card that has more storage. the old one won't work

3 I believe the page port has to be one of the first five. you then may have to assign the lines manually to all of the phone. #301 It should only take a few minutes though.

For the page port, use line 5. Assign line 5 as the page port, THEN assign the number of lines in #104. The system will automatically put the lines in order, skipping over the 5th one.

The reason you want to use line 5, is that it is the only line port that will also provide the contact closure during the page. Some amplifiers, especially the PagePac's and Bogen TPU's need this to switch from background music to telephone page. (even if you don't have BGM hooked up.)

Now, for the backup card - when you upgraded to an R6, did you get a silver upgrade/backup/remote access card? If so, that will do the job. If not, you can backup to the internal memory, but you should also use your PC and a 355-A adapter to keep a backup on your hard drive (to be able to restore to a new processor, if necessary)

Hi jfhensley,
Just to add, line ports on the 308EC cards will also work as paging ports. This is as long as you don't need a contact closure. I have not needed to do this. Even on a Bogen with background music as it will "duck" the music source when it sees audio on the telephone paging port.
