Hi

I work in a small office and we have 1 Notes 4.6.6 server running on NT 4.0 on an HP Netserver [Pentium 200Mhz]

Here's what I want to do:
upgrade to R5
replace the HP server with a newer server running W2K

Also I want to leave the existing 4.6/NT untouched just in case something goes badly wrong during the upgrade - then I'll just be able to plug the old server back in and fire it up.

What's the best way to go about the upgrade?

SHould I install 4.6 on the new server and then copy over the ID files, Names.nsf etc. If I do this does the server name have to be the same?

Or can I install R5 on the new server and then copy over ID files etc?

Any help appreciated

Tony

All you need to do is create a notes directory on your new server.

Copy over the data directory from your 46 server onto the will be 5 server.

Copy the notes.ini from the windows directory on the 46 server into the notes server on the 5 one.

Install 5 making sure it installs to notes and notes\data not the default which is lotus\notes and lotus\notes\data

And thats it. Since you have copied over the data directory and the ini file it will have all of your settings and dbs on it ready to go.

Thanks

does sound too difficult :))
