We are testing ACT 2008 and I have already started having issues. I have installed 2008 on a laptop which is running on Vista. I copied over a backup of one of our current 2006 databases. The restore as process works fine. However, when I go to open the database I receive the expected message that the database needs to be updated to the newer version. When it starts the update process I then receive the following error.

"Value does not fall within the expected range".

Any suggestions?

I haven't seen that during a conversion.

Make sure you did all the database mainenance on the ACT! 2006 before saving as. If it still happens, post the conversion log.

Called support and I was told that I could not convert the database using a backup. He said the only way to do it was to open an active database directly from 2008 or by installing 2008 on the computer that is running 2006 and hosting the databases.

Sorry - wrong thread.

Instead of a backup, you could stop the ACT! SQL service (Start | Run | Services.msc). Then copy the ADF, ALF and Database supplemental files from the ACT! 2006 machine to the ACT! 2008 machine.

Don't copy the PAD file. In ACT! 2008 - File | Open | Change file type to ADF and open that

Then it won't be a backup
