Hello Again,

Currently I am running Access 2000 Project against SQL Server 7. This configuration works without problems.

I am now considering upgrading to SQL Server 2000. Access 2000 documentation does not specifically say that it works with Server 2000. When I tried as a test to connect from Access 2000 to Server 2000 it appeared to work OK but when I tried to design a table from Access 2000 I was given a warning that I may not be able to save my changes in all cases.

I don't want to upgrade my clients to Access 2002 (XP).

Does anyone else have a configuration of Access 2000 --> SQL Server 2000? Have you experienced any problems? Is it recommended to run with such a configuration?

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Robert

I have a couple of applications of Access 2000 --> SQL Server 2000. I was able to do everything in the app that I wanted.

Reading that Knowledge base article put me off the idea of linking Access 2000 --> SQL Server 2000 ("you may experience severe incompatibility issues").

You can't use Server 2000 new features (eg. user-defined functions) from the Project ("you are advised to design your databases using the SQL Server Enterprise Manager")

You also need Office Service Release 1 which would take about 24 hours to download here.

Access 2002 --> SQL Server 2000 seems to be the answer, but I'm not prepared to do this.

Having said all that when I tried Access 2000 & SQL 2000 together it seems to work OK - but why risk it?
