i have just got solaris 2.8 on a sparc installed and set up the apache that comes with it, version 1.3 according to the server info.

My question is how do i go about upgrading to version 2 of apache. I need the c compiler dont i, because solaris does not have it built in any more.

I am a total newbie when it comes to all this apache installation and configuration so any help is appreciated.

I don't know nothin' 'bout runnin' no apache on no Solaris but if you can't compile the tarball then you will have to download the binary distro. Here is a link to where you can find the latest version. Check out the README for the version you want and it will tell you what is precompiled into that version. Sorry I wasn't more help.

I have not installed Apache 2.0 on Solaris 8 but I have installed both 1.3.19 and 1.3.26. You need to have gcc installed you can get the package from and just type pkgadd -d then package name and the system will install it for you. Hope this helps.
