We need to upgrade our compaq dl580 from w2k server to advanced server. The server hosts an extremely important application and therefore we need an easy way to revert should we get any problems.
The server has a mirrored c drive and a striped (2 drives) e drive, I want to take out all the c drives and and e drives and use fresh ones for the install. However the e drives will go from 2x18gb drives to 2x36gb drives. If we revert and plug in all the originals in the same slots, will the original settings be picked up or will we have to restore from a backup having set the arrary up again.
Thanks

Put simply..

Yes

Label the drives, power off the server, remove the drives,
Insert the new disks, install etc
If for any reason you need to fail back to original config
power down again

Insert the original disks into original positions... power up server

Array controller may complain if so press F1 to continue the RIS will be read from the disks and the server will configure the Array controller according to the stored configuration

Of course you will backup the original drives and system state, BEFORE attempting any of this ;-)

Cheers

Thanks for the quick reply. I was hoping that's what would happen. Before doing this we will have at least 2 different forms of backups in addition to the old drives.

Cheers
