I see WinSPM has the nice "convert" feature to go from different versions. I am having some problems getting a "board mismatch" error when attempting various upgrades. For example, I downloaded and converted an .ams file from a 6.1 CKE3, coverted it to 7.0 then attempted to restore it on a CKE5 R7.0 V14.0 and got the board mismatch. Must the CKE revision match? What are the general guidelines for upgrading?

You can upgrade anything to anything higher.

As far as the CKEXX - I use a CKE3 upgraded to an R7 to do most of my R7 Programming, including new installs, so the CKE doesn't matter.

If I were doing this, I would do the RESTORE to a processor in surrogate mode (NO MODULES INSTALLED).

What you are probably dealing with is an R7 Processor that is not totally erased.

Thus, you need to erase it and then do your restore.

I usually do the restore with the processor only to do away with the board mis-match problem all together, then put the expansion boards back and do a board renumber.

Thank you for the posts. I actually realized before I came back to read this thread that I had to do this with no other modules installed. (The whole board mis-match thing finally clicked for me). Now when you say you can go from anything to anything higher, if I downloaded an .ams from a system with say R7.0 V14.0, could I upload to a board with R7.0 V10.0 because it's the same R7.0, or does it always have to be a higher release and/or version?

Another question I forgot to ask is, does anyone know which software versions will work (correctly) on which CKE revision processors? Like will any Magix releases run on CKE3? Or do they require CKE4 or CKE5?

I've been reading all the post for this, & don't understand it all but will put my two cents in.

Your board mismatch may be the R7.0 does not support all the older boards. Like at least in the upgrade info it says "you must remove the following non-supported modules before upgrading" The list includes 4 CO loop start lines,4 CO loop start lines w/4TTR's, 8 ATL station, 408 ATL, 408 ATL LS/GS, & 8CO-BRI.

Also the upgrade doc's also say "When upgrading a Merlin Legend system to R7.0, it must have a CKE4 or CKE5 processor module" Now I've seen R7.0 CKE3's work & If MerlinMan did it, it must be ok.

As far as Magix, all the installs I've done even the first R1.0 was a CKE5.
