Upgrading PHP 4.1.2 to 4.2 from Source, OK?

Currently, I am running v4.1.2. My PHP install was installed from source. I need to upgrade to v4.2.0. Is it possible to simply compile the v4.2.0 source and install it over v4.1.2 without doing any extra preparation? Will this cause problems?
