Upgrading Micros 3700 version 5.4mr4 to 5.6

All,
What is the correct method to upgrade my system from 5.4mr4 to 5.6?
Ive tried multiply times and every time the database fails to start.

I have done the upgrade a few times on my lab. I have moved my database out. Then done as a new install of 5.0 and upgraded it 5.6. Then restored/upgraded my database. Has worked fine for me other then i have forgotten to upgrade Adobe before 5.6 a few times.

Maybe I need to look at how I'm installing version 5. Would you have a step by step tutorial?

Does the database fault? Are you using your database or the default?
If you are at 5.6 try doing the database upgrade/rebuild from the command line.
