Halo,
I need to upgrade a Sun Fire V240 memory to 4GB from whatever it has now. I think this is 1 GB..

"/usr/platform/`uname -i`/sbin/prtdiag -v" shows this is the memory section:

============================ Memory Configuration ============================
Segment Table:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Base Address Size Interleave Factor Contains
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
0x0 512MB 1 BankIDs 0
0x200000000 1GB 1 BankIDs 1

Bank Table:
-----------------------------------------------------------
Physical Location
ID ControllerID GroupID Size Interleave Way
-----------------------------------------------------------
0 0 0 512MB 0
1 0 1 1GB 0

Memory Module Groups:
--------------------------------------------------
ControllerID GroupID Labels Status
--------------------------------------------------
0 0 MB/P0/B0/D0
0 0 MB/P0/B0/D1
0 1 MB/P0/B1/D0
0 1 MB/P0/B1/D1

I have received the 4GB upgrade - but just the two DIMMs, but I am not sure on the best procedure to replace them, where to insert them etc.

Can anybody point me in the right direction?

Do you have opened the box? I think there are free slots for the memory.

No I haven't opened the box (server) yet. If there are free slots can I just pop the memory in without removing the old memory?

Yes, I think it should be no problem.
And then you got 5.5 GBytes.

Not sure, but don't the modules have to be added in pairs?

I think so as well yes.
I plan to pull out the 1.5GB and pop in the 4GB (2x2GB). If I keep it all in there my guess is also that the slowest memory speed (the old ram) would slow down the newer ones.
