I just got a 2.1GHz C2D MacBook (base model 120GB HDD, 1 GB Ram). I was looking at harddrives on newegg.com and saw that there are 2 types of SATA laptop drives, or I should say 2 speeds, 1.5Gbs and 3.0Gbs. Will my MacBook utilize the 3.0, is there really a difference? Should I just go for the best bang for buck? I assume the MacBook supports the 3.0 but saw nothing on the apple website. Thanks

The faster should be ok.

If you try you'll get much more info on what upgrades are available for your machine. They're reliable mac specialists. Just click on the hard drive link and select the notebook drive section. On the next page you'll see a section for picking updates by Mac model. Select yours and you'll get things that will work in your machine. Then pick the brand/type of hard drive you want and read its specs. You can also ask them on their 800 number or via web.

I don't know if they'll be more expensive or cheaper than newegg, but I don know that they know their mac stuff.

Using OSX 10.3.9 & 10.4.11 on a G4, G5 & Intel Macbook

There's two areas to watch: electrical and mechanical.

Electrical: A faster hard drive (7200 rpm) will consume more power, and shorten your battery life. Of course, it'll be nice & fast. :)

Mechanical: With notebook drives, the height & width are standard, however the thickness can vary (a common thickness is 9.5mm, but it can be different). Use the owcomputing site to make sure you get the right one for your MacBook.
