I'm upgrading a workstation from NT to Win2k Pro on a NTFS partition. Prior to the first reboot, everything goes fine. Once the GUI part of the installation occurs, things move very slowly (the box is PIII 733, 256mb, 15gig HD). It takes approx. 2 hours to get to the final screen (Creating startmenu settings, registering components, save setting, etc). It get about halfway through registering components and does not move. The mouse is still functional and the setup window can be moved around the screen. There is no HD or CDROM activity. I have removed all devices other than mouse, keyboard, and video card. Anyone have any ideas?? It is not possible to cleanly reinstall, it must be saved, please help!!

Can you swap out the memory? (or just use one stick if you've 2). Can you slow down memory or processor speed? Just suggestions - areas that can cause problems with win2k.
