I have read a few posts on the subject, but I was wondering if anyone could give me a detailed process (and caveats) for upgrading from 1.8 to XPs.

I have one server (and therefore one server farm) to upgrade and a complete reinstall is not an option.

I would love to hear how the process went for others of you.

Thanks.

I did a few upgrades from 1.8 to XP without any problems

Did an upgrade together with moving the servers into a domain without any problem what so ever.

1.8 to XP is so different in architecture so the update is more of a install of XP.

Just have a good plan for the Data Store implementation.
If you are using the MF server as the datastore as well or using a another machine for the purpose.

And don't forget to have all necessary licenses at hand!

Good luck!

Well..

I did the update and got crushed on one simple mistake. We didnt name the new farm the same as the old one. Now we get to visit client desktops to attach them to the new farm so the "refresh your apps" message goes away.

The new software appears to be a bit flaky, lokups and such. Is there an update to XP 1.0? If so, how do I install it? We have the license for feature pack 2 service pack 2 but it looks like an entirely new install..

Can anyone help?

Thanks.

Hi!

The Service Pack/Feature Release goes hand in hand. When updating the MetaFrame to Service Pack 2 (inkludes all fixes in SP1) it adds all the features of Feature Release 1 and Feature Release 2.
Just install the SP with the "wizard" together with the SP/FR CD or softwarepack you get it on. I've never heard of any trouble with that and never had any myself either.

Next step...
To enable the features of Feature Release for all the users you need to license it with the license strings you got with the software.

Make sure you get all the licensing correct, cause you need FR2 server license AND connection licenses.
After applying the license packs (and activating them) then you can change FR level of the servers (right click in CMC, Set Feature Release level)

Make sure all servers in the farm are set to the same FR-level.

Good luck!

When I started the wizard for FP2/SP2 I was using the patch from Citrix for Windows 2000 Servers running SP3. The wizard that came up was asking about new or existing farms and such and I only remember that from the 1.8 to XP original upgrade.

Is this normal? What should I select to keep the same farm and published apps?

Thanks.
