upgrading from CE 8 to CE 9

Any pointers for going from CE 8 to 9. I only have CE 8 running on a server and as of now no development box. Also I was looking for 9.0 hot fixes. Is the only hot fix the monthly one and will that catch me up on everything? Also I know there were some problems with postgresql db's, is that still a problem?
