I am going to upgrade my CallManager cluster this weekend and was wondering if someone could share their experience with me. Can I leave the subscriber up and running and handling call processing while I am performing the upgrade on the publisher, then bring it down to perform the upgrade on it once the first machine is back online? I believe that I was once told that all the machines in the cluster must be offline for you to perform the upgrade of the publisher, which means that my call processing will be down for the whole time that I am upgrading. Any guidance is appreciated.

Thanks,
Adam

You should upgrade the Publisher first. When you start the installation all your services will be stop, including the call manager service. You will experience call interruption when you start upgrading the subscriber at which point the phones should be failing over to the Publisher.

Make sure you follow the Matrix requirements prior to the upgrade:
Make sure you read the read me file before any OS, SQL or patches upgrade. There might be a few things of importance to consider.

Here is another Link which explains how to run the installation and what these tasks involve. Have a smooth upgrade.

Stay cool; it’s not over yet!

One more thing you might want to use prior to the upgrade is the Cisco Call Manager Maintenance Upgrade (for upgrades from 3.3(2) only). This will check your system's database. Also it will create a report advising you of any component that might need to be upgrade. If you have a cisco cco login you should be able to getting from this link. I will run this prior to doing anything to the system.

Stay cool; it’s not over yet!
