I have been out of the swing for almost a year with flash, and I would like to get re-aquainted with the program again - (I've forgotten most of what I did know!) I was wondering if the new version is worth upgrading to, and if so why?
Thanks

in my view i'd say "definitely yes" because the way the whole surface of the program is done and can be adopted to your personal needs would be worth an update. but that's not the only reason as now you can use ready to use components such as scrollbars, dropdown menues,...
the one thing i think that is solved in a better way in flash 5 is the beginners tutorial in the help-option of the menu but as far as i remember that's the only point i'd prefer flash5 to mx. regards

But then again, if you're not going to use Flash only once in the next year, would it really be worth it? Regards,

Absoultely, empthatically YES.

Prior to MX I had little time for flash now I think its going to take over the web. The differences between the 2 are immense. I dont think its putting it too strongly to say that HTML sites have had their day. The ability to put multimedia into web pages is there with flash 5 (mostly abused) but MX makes it easy to create an entire dynamic site in Flash..content display, database connectivity, video, and now communication server MX.
What is being seen with MX is much less input from designers as its now essentially a developer tool leading to an improved reputation for Flash.

UPGRADE.

What Bill said.

You can always download the 30 day trial version to check out the new features.

Flash MX can only do a few things different to Flash 5 the only real difference is it's easyer to make with MX's "drag drop and go" components Regards
