I am trying to upgrade from 4.1 SP5 on NT 4.0 SP6a
to an NG install

the instalation completes with no reported problems but doesnt function due to no policy installed

when i try to install the policy i get this message

alliance_(Live).W: Security Policy Script
generated into alli_(Live).pf
alli_(Live):
Compiled OK.

Installing VPN-1/FireWall-1 policy On:
firewall_Trend_interscan ...

VPN-1/FireWall-1 policy installation failed for
module firewall_Trend_interscan...
Reason: Policy installation function failed to locate
executable for commit

VPN-1/FireWall-1 policy Installation for all modules
was stopped.

Any ideas????

I eventuly tracked down the problem. it is a known issue to checkpoint (not that they make it easy to find)

FW-1 Upgrade does not cope with objects with a name greater than 19 chars long. if you have them then you will get the problem mentioned.

Solution -
before starting an upgrade rename ALL objects so their length is 19 chars or less.

Hi Piloria,

I just wanted to say thank you! I had the same problem with a brand new installation of NG and your posting saved my day at last...)

All the best
Werner
