I just need to confirm that I have this correct before i go insane. I have:
1 x IP500 V1 currently on 4.0 (149604)
1 x DS30 V2 6.1 (15)
1 x DS16 V2 6.1 (15)
1 x ANALOG POTS8V2 6.1 (15)

I am going to upgrade to latest 8.1. I will be inserting the upgrade licence and essential licence prior to the upgrade.
I am then going to upgrade all units to a V7 or V8 then take it up to 8.1. Does all this sound correct ? there is no other interims that i will need ?

So do i need to take it up 6.0 ? I have done other upgrades in the past where they were on 4.2 software and taken it up to V7 then 8.1 and all was okay.

The 8.0 Tech Bulletin upgrade path allows you to go from 4.x is straight to 8.0 so I would go to 8.0 first then 8.1. No need to go to 6.0.

Someone else on the forum mentioned they go to R6 to be safe, but I have always either gone to R7 or R8 and then to R8.1. If you go through R7 it will create the virtual essential license (which you don't need) so you could just go through R8.

No need to go to 6.0. Unless you are pre 4.0 you can go to 8.0 and then 8.1.

10.2 Core Software Upgrade Summary
The IP500 & IP500v2 must be running version 7.0/8.0 to upgrade directly to 8.1. Any
previous versions must be upgraded to 7.0 before an upgrade to 8.1 is made. If
running a software version older than 4.0 then please refer to Technical Bulletin 109.
