So Ive ordered the 16MB Flash and 16MB DRAM for my 837. I am unable to find a simple guide to the upgrade implementation. I see many 'this is how you fit the ram' guides and thats ok, but nothing stating the best practice for the job.

Bear in mind my 837 does not have enough flash on board to hold its IOS image when I pull the 4MB module to replace.

So here is what I am thinking; (please for the love of whinnie the pooh correct me if I am about to make an oopsie):

1, backup confs, IOS over tftp
2, erase flash & sqaush
3, shutdown router
4, install the new ram modules
5, boot the router (hopefully to romon)
6, copy IOS image and conf from tftp
6.1 set IP_ADDRESS, IP_SUBNET_MASK, DEFAULT_GATEWAY, TFTP_SERVER, TFTP_FILE
6.2 execute tftpdnld command
7, watch as she boots back up and check logs for problems
8, have a large drink.

what do you pro's think?

ARe you replacing flash with 16MB? Why would you erase and squeeze (not squash) flash?

sorry should have been clearer - currently there is a 4MB flash module and 8MB on-board. I intend to replace the 4MB module with a 16MB module.

1, backup confs, IOS over tftp--yes
2, erase flash & sqaush---squeeze flash:, not squash
3, shutdown router--do this before replacing flash
4, install the new ram modules---yes
5, boot the router (hopefully to romon)---force it (break)
6, copy IOS image and conf from tftp---yes
6.1 set IP_ADDRESS, IP_SUBNET_MASK, DEFAULT_GATEWAY, TFTP_SERVER, TFTP_FILE---yup
6.2 execute tftpdnld command---yup
7, watch as she boots back up and check logs for problems---yes
8, have a large drink.---yes
9, smoke something if you wish as well...;)
10, give me a star
11, :)

Perfect thanks :) (all those years in scm and deployment have gone to my head - I have a implementation and roll-out plan already), I guess good habits die hard!

I don't suppose anyone knows a cisco supplier in the uk that can get me the one image file I need (my cisco account isn't registered enough for IOS downloads) and the ones I have tried all want extortionate amounts (and contracts). Surely some cisco partner out there does a single IOS release cheap for us poor students?

any links, or reconsiderations would be gratefully received.

Thanks chaps :)
