Upgrading Exchange 5.5 to 2000 on same machine

I have read a few MS KB articles on how to do this and what I am not clear on is this.

I assume that NT 4 must be upgraded to Win 2000 server first, yes?

You must have a 2000 DC first, that is also your Global Catalogue server, yes?

You install the Exchange 2000 ADC connctor on your Exchange 5.5 server to sync AD and the directory on 5.5

Once NT has been uprgraded to Windows 2000 server, and you have followed all the reccmommended tasks, you upgrade Exchange 5.5 to Exchange 2000?

This is possible on on the same server?
