Hi all,

We have a network with only one Domain Controler, and we're going to upgrade it to a better PC. What is the best way to do it?

Thanks

Hi,

1- Make sure DNS is all nicely set up.
### This part is the most important so make sure everything is tiptop ###

2- Install new server run DCPROMO

3- Wait for replication. Or force it using Repadmin from the administrators toolkit.

4- Check the DNS on the new server. Are the forwarders setup correctly?

5- Transfer the FMSO roles over.

& GC role

(Administrative tools open the site, server, NTDS Settings, properties, General Tab, and there a check box.

5a- Transfer files/permissions over.

5- Demote the OLD server to a standalone server.

6- Remove it from the network or demote to a workgroup.

7- Get the clients to log into the new server or DNS the old server name to the new server name.

I *think* thats about it.

HTH

Ash.
