To cope with future data storage I will be adding some new disks to a file cluster. Currently has about 6 146 Gig disks and I will be adding 6 346 Gig disks. Now there is room in the SAN box (HP) to add the new disks in alongside the existing disks; so my thinking is;

Put new disks in disk box
Create my RAID array on these disks
Partition space up as I require for my file storage
Give new partitions drive letters
use robocopy to copy all data from old array to the new one

Then I've read that I will need to use clusterecovery.exe tool as documented here to be able to bring the new disks online with the same drive letters as the old ones.

Does the above sound about right?? Any advice gratefully received

The cluster service uses disk signatures to identify what disk is what, the drive letters don't really matter.

You can either use the tool to recreate the same drive signature on your new volume, make sure the existing volume dosen't exist at that time.

or Recreate the disk resource on the new disk which will update the signature

or edit the signature in the registry to reflect the new volume.

All of these are pretty straight forward operations so you shouldnt have any problems.

Ah yeah good point, I didn't think of just re-creating the physical disk resource. Thanks
