Hello all
I have never had the need to upgrade over that little hump CKE4-CKE5 but I think I remember that I can not upgrade a CKE4 to become a Magix, I think it needs to be a CKE5. Could anyone please confirm that for me before I screw up the system by trying to do so.

Thanks in advance for your help

are there any downsides to it, like some features not working or anything like that?

I havent run into any, i have even done an cke3, the only difference is if you have an 016 with the cke 3

sometimes the magix does not recognize the circuit pack,

the customer I want to upgrade has 016 TRR and 016 MLX cards, but with the CKE4 I would just think that I will try it and hope for the best.

Thanks a lot for your input.

you only have trouble with the 016 if it is a CKE 3,. you shouldn't have any problems with a cke 4

Thanks again cvrbob have a star for the great info

The only difference between the CKE3 and CKE4 was on board memory which they added 64K to the CKE4 - primarily for the double density 016ETR and 016MLX mods - but that only becomes a problem w/ the CKE3 if you have a full 2 or 3 cabinet config depending on the mods for the 2 cabinet config.

The CKE5 added another 64K memory - again primarily for large system configs - 3 cabinets.

You can upgrade CKE3 up to Magix R4.0 in a single cabinet config and it runs fine - CKE4 to magix R4.0 is touch and go up to the 2nd cabinet and sometimes even a 3rd cab if the config isn't to tasking on the processor.

Hope that helps.

Avayatech713 has provided some excellent technical facts about those proc difference.

The only thing I might add is that a CKE3--even if using a single carrier only--will not register boards that have more than 16 ports. For example, a Magix 4.0 with CKE3 processor will not recognize an 024TDL board. In rare cases where such a board is recognized, it does not function properly.

also very excellent fact, that also deserves a star.

I have to admit that I installed 1 Magix in my life (and that was preprogrammed) but serviced quite a bit which doesn't really teach you the ins and outs of the system. Since about a year ago I do remote support on them, and I have to say I don't like them much but that is because I just don't appreciate the different releases with different features and having to get into the whole knowing what is going on thing. The only thing I like about them is that they are very reliable and if not physically destroyed they do the job.
