Your best bet it to visit the website of your Motherboard manufacturer. If you are unsure who the manufacturer is then download either Belarc Advisor or SiSoft Sandra, these apps should tell you who the manuf is.
It is normally recommended to leave your bios at the current version - unless you are experiencing problems that are fixed with an updated version.
If you are experiencing problems let us know and we may be able to provide a solution for you.

Otherwise you have to go through a company that will charge you.
If there is a updated BIOS available then the best place, IMO, is the Motherboard Manufs Site. As they will give it to you free of charge and you know that it is compatable with your hardware.

btw - this is realy a hardware question - not XP - forum602 is more appropriate. Hope you get it sorted (it would also help if you explain why you want to upgrade - upgrading bios should only be done if upgrade includes improved functionality you actually need. With a bios from 1997, I'd guess that's increased hard drive size recognition - and you might be better off buying a PCI card instead if you're determined to continue using such an old mobo).
