Hello, I am going to be upgrading from ACS R4 to ACS R8. We are getting all new equipment and phones. Can I simply backup the R4 config and restore it on the R8 or will that not work since there are many releases between the two? It seems like this should be super easy to do.

You can only restore a R6 or R7 backup file to a R8 processor. I have been very busy upgrading all of our Maintenance customers to the R6 in case of catastrophic failure. You can upgrade your R4 to a R6, backup, then restore to the R8. Otherwise, you will need to reprogram the r8 yourself. When we would upgrade a Partner Plus to an ACS, i would have two Partner 34Ds, side by side, and go through each line and adjust the data accordingly. This is a route you could take. Hope this helps.

No, you can go from R6 or R7 to R8 automatically, but not R4.

But, this is a perfect opportunity to fine tune your setup, and programming from scratch should not take much time at all.
