Upgrading accpac

Hi,
We are currently upgrading accpac advantage series 5.2 to sage accpac 5.4 enterprise.

We recreate company and system files and folder using the setup wizard then did a database load ( previously did dump in 5.2 all batches posted ).

All went well when we open the company we were asked to activate modules. when activating modules the following error displays

automation error
unspecified
-2147467259

what am I doing wrong ? should I upgrade to 5.3 and the 5.4 ?

I've had an issue regarding this error as well I can show you what my Accpac Support guys said (which no help for me, I already had all of it set up)

Hopefully it helps you:

When you insert a screen into a VB program, it is version specific. If you insert the 5.3A UI into your form, then you cannot run your program with a database with 5.4A activated.

If you want to run your program under 5.4A, you must remove the reference to the 5.3A screen and add the 5.4A screen and re-compile your program. Also these VB programs can be sensitive to service packs, so if a UI is included in a service pack then you will need to re-compile your program on a computer with that version registered.
 
And it shouldnt matter if its 5.2 or 5.1, dont bother updating to 5.3 then 5.4, as far as i know it wont make a difference.

My current accpac version :

AP, AR, GL, IC, LanPak, Optional Fields, OE, P.M and S.M are all 5.2A with latest service packs

US Payroll and tax updates are 5.1A with service packs
 
Don't know why you used the setup wizard, nobody uses that. All you have to do is install the new modules and service packs, then upgrade your data in place. (After a good backup, of course). No Dump/Load is required.

In general, an automation error means you're missing a program or service pack.
 
Hi tuba2007

I did as you said , however when activating bank services 5.4 I got the following error.

E database error (operation =, error=49858)
C Cannot activate bank services

when I shut down and restart
I get this only this one now

internal error
cannot activate bank services

any idea what happened?

I don't know. I've only done around three hundred upgrades in the last 10 years, and I've never seen error number 49858. Sounds like your database isn't set up right. Which is it?
 
how do I check to see if database is set up right.. it works fine in 5.2.

I did integrity check and verify in the database setup window and even chkdsk and found no errors

This is what I did :

1 . Accpac 5.2 already installed (and running fine with SP3 -- Bankservices 5.2B)
2. I installed 5.4 and pervasive 9
3. Open company in 5.4 and activated SM5.4A
4. Activated GL (this went fine)
5. tried Activated Bank services and got the error
6. went on and activated tax services.
7. cannot activate AP, AR, and UP 5.4A unless bank services is activated

note when I open the company I can see all other modules such as BS, AP, AR etc activated in 5.2A
 
You need Pervasive 9.5 with Accpac 5.4, so start with the download and install of Pervasive 9 SP2 (which gives you 9.5).
