I have an ipo at 6.1 and want to upgrade it to 10.1. Can I do a direct upgrade or does it have to be done in steps? I am swapping the control unit from a V1 TO A V2 and having the licence converted. I just want to backup the config and restore it to the new system. Will that work or do I have to export the csv files and upload into the new system that way?

With that big of a jump I would reprogram the database from scratch.
To much of a chance of database corruption.

Just save the config and send it offline then double check to make sure everything is in the correct place for ports. It is pretty simple when you are changing the chassis. Also make sure that the cards are compatible with the new release.

it will probably be ok but the system is so old it would probably benefit from a retype to clear out all the dead wood

also some programming techniques for 6.1 are nolonger best practice for V10.1

phantom users on divert to shortcodes for messaging etc are not usually required any more
also no Time profiles can be overridden from the handset it may now be better to place time profile into incoming call routes rather than on the group (especially for Holidays etc).

Do things on the cheap & it will cost you dear

I assume you are starting from scratch on the V2 so the other tips on the config make sense.

Do check the technical bulletins on which licences are still valid e.g. PhoneManager is no more.

I usually take the V1 and step upgrade it without the upgrade licenses to R9.0 then take the config and upload it to the new 10.1 processor
so far never had an issue with corruption because 9.0 is not that far away from 10.1
