Here are some gotchas that Novell does not post.
If you plan to use Client 2.5 on your 98 workstations and upgrade to 3.21 later, be careful, there are certain revs of 2.5 that will not authenticate to a 5.1 server unless a drive is being mapped there.
Ex: Have 4.11 server that houses all print queues, upgraded it to 5.1, some users were able to print and some were not. Band Aid fix, map a drive to the server, users are able to print until the new client is rolled out. Per Novell Engineer, certain (older) revs of the 2.5 client will not properly authenticate to a 5.1 server.
Also, If you have a server you want to upgrade to 5.1 from 4.11, it is highly recommended that a R/W or root be placed on the server prior to the upgrade. Once it is upgraded to 5.1, it can then be removed. This has been recommended by a backline engineer from Novell.
I recommend that all of you also do a DSREPAIR -rc and copy the ds backup info off the server. In our upgrade, the pseudo server object became corrupted and trashed NDS on that server. Having a good NDS backup will ensure that you can go back to 4.11 should the need arise. [sig]<p>Mark C.
