I have been looking for information on upgrading from intranetware to netware 5.1
Seems like everyone had a different idea on the correct processes needed to do the upgrade. Some threads suggest upgrading the master first, some the least important Server first. I will be installing a new 5.1 server that will run Groupwise. It will be installed into a 4.11 tree. I know I first need to upgrade to the latest service pack on all servers. I will also be upgrading the Bordermanager server to 5.1. The bordermanager server is not a master. It also only has service pack 6a loaded at this time. After upgrading the service packs, what would be the best way to continue.
Upgrade the Bordermanager Server (which is running boardermanager 3). Or install
the new 5.1 server? Any help will be appreciated.

I would recommend that your first Server that you upgrade to NetWare v5.1 should be your Master. Remember, the first NetWare v5.1 that is installed will have the Certificate of Authority for the NDS Tree installed to it.

I would not recommend making your BorderManager server the Master of your NDS Tree.

Also, if you are gonna upgrade one server to NetWare v5.1, you really should upgrade ALL of the server as well!

Good Luck!
