I recently upgrade my computer from Windows 98 to Windows XP... however when I shut it down... I can't turn it back on... Why is that?

does the computer not turn on at all or does it turn on but fails to boot properly to xp?

When i turn on the computer you heard the fan turn on and everything, but after 2 seconds... it turns off.... i think it goes into standby mode (not sure cuz lights aren't hooked up).

This could be a couple of things. One is that some connection is loose in your computer or you have a no post situation.

Strip your system down. Unplug everything (memory, drives, expansion cards) from the motherboard. Reseat CPU, power connections to motherboard and control panel cable. Restart system. If you hear beeps, then your motherboard and power supply are okay. Reseat memory and rest of the components one by one and see upon reinstalling which component the problem comes back. Thats your faulty component.
