Hi All
Anyone had this before.
Upgraded to AIX 6.1 via migration, after system rebooted and presented me with a login , I cannot login either as root or a user.
I know the password file is ok as I can connect via ftp, and rsh which uses the password file for validation.
It's as if it's not executing /usr/bin/ksh on the end of the line in the password file for anybody including root.

Any idea's guys, help greatly appreciated.

As per the AIX 6.1 migration procedure

"Before migrating your BOS to AIX 6.1, ensure that the root user has a primary authentication method of SYSTEM. You can check this condition by typing the following command:

# lsuser -a auth1 root

Change the value, if needed, by typing the following command:

# chuser auth1=SYSTEM root"

Have you done this?

Thanks for replying HarryNair

Yes auth1 for root is SYSTEM, followed procedure in IBM Book Installation and Migration that comes with the software.

Done loads of migrations from early 3.5AIX right up to 5.3
but this one's got me stumped.

Looking at whats new in 6.1 it may have something to do with trusted computing base, and new authentication settings, trying another upgrade will update thread once complete.
